Kindness is the way to roll! (PBL)

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was:
How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build
a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we
had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and
kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free
and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and Then we Ended up With. Making cupcakes
Reading a book to Paiaka
and kakano. We set up some chairs. And we would read a book to them.
The book was called the chocolate Factory.

then we Gave them a cool book mark. We Choose 6 people from
Kakano and all of Paiaka could go if they wanted to .
The 2 hubs we choose was Kakano and Paiaka.

Reflection:
For our final product our group made lots of bookmarks and cupcakes.
We choose what book to read to paiaka and kakano.

How did our action build a sense of community in the school
The People that were there Had a wonder full time and they enjoyed coloring in the bookmarks
and taking a another cool bookmark that we made for them.

I contributed by Making Cupcakes and Making bookmarks.

I think the PBL might impact on others by helping them to enjoy
reading the book to them and letting them color a bookmark
and getting a yummy cupcake.

What I learned about working with others was that it will get done a lot quicker if we all do it together.

  1. Hey Zoe, I liked the idea of reading a book to younger kids and giving out cupcakes and letting them enjoy colouring in bookmarks an for them able to take them home for later use. I think this is a creative way of building community amongst the school between the hubs. The cupcakes are something that tied in nicely with the title of the book you read to the kids about the chocolate factory too and giving out bookmarks and letting them colour in them too is something they can take away and use at home when they read at home also. It helps the kids remember about the time when Zoe and her friends read to them. Like a big older sister that you are helping and encouraging younger children to develop their own love of reading too. Well done Zoe great work. What will you think of for your next PBL project?
